What Security Does Admiral Use?

One of the things we commonly get asked at Admiral for centralized MikroTik management is what security mechanisms do we have in place to protect access because, let’s face it, giving full access to your MikroTiks to a 3rd party can be scary!

We want you to know we take security very seriously and implement several layers of approaches to ensure that not only are our services safe, but also your account and MikroTiks too.

Firewall

First off, we have hardened firewall rules that ensure only IP addresses from your account are able to communicate with your deployment of MikroTiks.

We also prevent any hairpin attacks of our customers to other customers. We even prevent your own MikroTiks from using our service as a proxy to talk to each other.

Finally, we follow zero-trust principles and block access by default, then layer on allowed and trusted access as necessary.

Multi-Factor-Authentication (MFA/2FA)

Once per week you’ll be prompted by our software to prove that your browser session to your dashboard is really you. Whether you choose to authenticate with email, SMS/text, authenticator app or Telegram – we use this additional security mechanism to keep your account on lock.

Randomized Credentials

Every. Single. MikroTik. gets random username, password, VPN user and VPN password so that any brute force on one of your Tiks limits the scope to just one unit.

Encrypted Communications

We use the MikroTik SSTP tunnel interface that’s encrypted with AES256-CBC for all communications to and from the remote MikroTik. That means telemetry, API calls, backups, WINBOX, command and control – everything in our dashboard – is encrypted when our servers are talking to your MikroTik.

Group Level Permissions

In your dashboard under USERS MANAGER are permissions options to enable/disable functionality in the Admiral software, so that you can allow for example, Customer Service to update firmware but NOT have access to WebSSH or other advanced features.

As we develop and expand our platform, we continue to analyze how we can improve our layers of security. If you have suggestions or feedback, reach out to us at support@admiralplatform.com.
