Admiral Manager is a system tool to allow Admiral customers to monitor and manage some aspects of their deployment. The link can be found under the Administrator Settings. Users must have Dashboard or Administrator Settings level permissions.
Usage #
- Restart server processes.
- Reboot misbehaving servers.
- Monitor performance of deployments.
- Monitor storage space.
- Manually update server to latest Admiral version.
Restart Server Process #
The server process that handles requests and polling can be restarted. Sometimes, this can help recover from an unhealthy state.
Generally, if the workers on web servers get above 50 and performance has degraded (especially for pollers – indicated by spotty router data), this may serve to recover from the degraded state.
Reboot Server #
In general, most issues that occur can be addressed by ‘Restarting the Server Process’ or by ‘Remounting the Storage Server.’ However, the servers can be rebooted, as a last resort. This may help to recover from a degraded state that can’t be fixed by the fixes mentioned above.
If this does not fix anything and issues persist, contact support for troubleshooting.
Update Admiral Software #
In general, our technicians automatically deploy updates and fixes to Admiral deployments. This is usually done on a weekly basis. However, some issues may arise (firewall or power issues, for example) that may cause this update to fail on some deployments. If this happens, Software Version will show “out-of-date” on the Poller and App servers. In some rare cases, such as outbound connectivity issues, Software Version will always show “out-of-date,” as this is the default value in the case that software versions cannot be determined.
An update may take 5-10 seconds to be reflected in the “Software Version” value. Additionally, some updates may require our engineers to make some changes to the server, manually. These situations will be communicated in the case that our automatic updates fail and the “Update Admiral” button fails to do all the work required for an update.
Remount Storage Server #
The storage server is used for on-site database backups and historical data. Where possible we also take off-site backups to ensure sufficient data integrity. If historical data seems to be having an issue, this may indicate an issue with the connection between the storage server and a poller/app server. In such a case, “Storage Server Mount” will show “dead” or “failed” or some similar value. The value should be “mounted.” If the value is not “mounted”, then using the “Remount Storage Server” button may help remedy the issue:
The fix may take 5-10 seconds to be reflected in the “Storage Server Mount” value.
Monitor Admiral #
The health of the Admiral deployment is displayed for each of the respective servers, including storage (in the case of the storage server) and memory usage. In general, our engineers monitor these values, provision resources, or clear space where needed. However, if these values get too high and service becomes degraded, contact support. In rare cases, a reboot may also clear some disk space.
